INTERMEDIATE LEVEL - INTRODUCTION TO SHORT GAME ON NATURAL TURF GRASS

Short game training on the natural surface, not plastic turf or fake grass mats, designed to teach basic putting, chipping, pitching, and sand play. Learn the grip, aim, stance, and posture needed to prepare for the proper execution of these shots. Learn the definition of chipping and pitching, when it is appropriate to chip, pitch or putt and other options. This course is designed to introduce theory and practice of the partial golf swings players make when playing a complete game of golf. This class is a necessity prior to playing golf on the golf course. The course prepares the student for the next level of club control using the short clubs.

COURSE CONTENT

  1. Chipping- explanation and demonstration of chipping. What is a chip? When to chip- How to chip- Clubs used for chipping.
  2. Pitching- explanation and demonstration of pitching. What is a pitch? When to pitch- How to pitch- Clubs used for pitching.
  3. Chipping review- Pitching review- Options for chipping and pitching-Very short pitches- Long pitches.
  4. Full swings with the Pw, Sw, Gw, and Lw. - Controlling distances of wedges.  Equipment evaluation; explanation of loft, lie, length, weight, shaft materials, bounces.
  5. Putting- explanation and demonstration of putting. When do you putt? Short putts, Long putts, breaking putts, green reading.

Sand bunker training. Demonstration and practice of various sand shot techniques- How to get the ball out of the bunker- (greenside) splash shot, buried ball blast, uneven lies- (fairway bunker)- proper club selection.
